Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Placer Valley Tourism
Rocklin, California

Overview
Placer Valley Tourism (PVT), a destination marketing organization located in Rocklin, California, is currently recruiting for its CEO position. We are looking for an experienced leader who understands the role of destination marketing for the promotion of tourism, hospitality and business development in the communities of Lincoln, Rocklin and Roseville.

Summary
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, inspires broad vision and strategic planning; organizes and coordinates the functional and leadership activities; implements and coordinates the programs and activities to promote overnight stays; and performs all related duties as required. The CEO is appointed by a simple majority vote of the total number of elected Board members. The CEO shall serve until he/she resigns or is removed by a simple majority vote of the total number of elected Board members. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors. FLSA Status: Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Planning and Vision

  • Reviews relevant economic and social science research, critiques the research, draws different or additional conclusions as necessary for PVT planning, and present the results to the Board with strategic recommendations
  • Works closely with the Board of Directors to direct the development and maintenance of the organization’s strategic plan
  • Solicits and summaries the objectives of key participants in the relevant business sectors and incorporates their needs into the PVT strategic plan
  • Creates, implements and maintains a strategy for BID

Program

  • Oversees all organization programs and recommends changes to the Board to meet the organizational mission and vision within the approved annual budget
  • Work with various governmental and economic development agencies to develop and assemble a portfolio of information about South Placer County
  • Cultivate and develop public and private sector partnerships to expand and augment revenue generation


Financial and Operations

  • Develops and recommends the annual organization budget and business plan for Board approval in order to achieve the organization mission and vision
  • Ensures the optimum use of all organizational resources and recommends allocation changes as needed to strengthen the organization
  • Oversees adoption of information technology to assist the organization in fulfilling its mission and vision.
  • Consults with Executive Committee, Board Chairperson or Board of Directors regarding issues requiring the utilization of legal services or other professional expertise
  • Oversees the day-to-day financial operations of the organization including accounts receivable, payables, payroll, financial statements, audit, risk management and control processes
  • Develop, manage budget and oversee collection of BID Assessments

Organizational Development and Staffing

  • Recommends policy and organizational changes to the Board when appropriate
  • Develops and maintains effective organizational policies and ensures all PVT activities are implemented within these established policies, guidelines, laws and ethical standards
  • Develops, implements and oversees organization’s human resource functions within the approved budget including staffing levels, recruitment, hiring, compensation, training, evaluation, performance standards, payroll functions, discipline, termination, and understanding California employment law

Public Relations

  • Acts as the official spokesperson for the organization and the Placer Valley tourism industry
  • Develops positive relationships with elected and appointed City and County officials as well as all represented entities of the tourism industry both within and outside Placer County
  • Represents the county’s tourism industry before city council, Supervisors and other government institutions. Provide both strategic and tactical community input
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the various media outlets in order to enhance the image of tourism and its development throughout the region

Board Relations

  • Assists in the recruitment and retention of Board members and participate in maintaining the health and professional growth of the Board
  • Serves as an ex officio member of all Board committees and taskforces and appoints staff members to serve as board committee liaisons
  • Oversees administrative preparation for Board and Executive Committee meetings

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                     
Manages staff of 3 to 6 and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                                    
Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university with academic course work in a relevant discipline (i.e., public administration, communications, journalism, public information, business administration or other closely related fields of study) and five years of experience OR 10 plus years of related experience that results in equivalent learning. CEO will also have a general management experience with budget responsibility of at least $2 million; substantial sales and marketing experience, preferable experience as a senior sales and/or marketing manager and preferably in the travel and hospitality industry. Previous hotel experience highly desirable.

Language Skills                                                                
Excellent English language communication skills including the ability to read and summarize material in a broad range of professional publications and the ability to write clear, concise and compelling reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluency in languages other than English will be considered a plus.

Computer Skills                                                               
Knowledge and personal proficiency to use word processing and spreadsheet software as well as the Internet. CEO must also be familiar with contact management systems and database software and be able to learn the use of these programs with minimal instruction.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including necessary endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform essential job functions of the position.

  • Ability to promote all partners for overnight stays and extended stays in the county

Job Description
The Sales Manager will focus on expanding the number of meetings and conventions in Pierce County through direct sales initiatives. Their target markets will include associations, government and education markets. This position will embrace regionalism, leadership and accountability in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively solicit association, government and education markets business to meet and exceed room night goals by making cold calls, direct sales calls, sales blitzes + site tours
  • Maintain good relationships with existing association, government and education markets market clients/accounts
  • Sell Pierce County as a destination at tradeshows, conventions, sales meetings
  • Liaise with groups to arrange meeting services
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with clients/accounts in order to introduce and promote the destination in accordance with company goals and policies
  • Call on prospects to solicit business, analyze requirements of function, outline available lodging/meeting facilities and services offered, and send leads
  • Act as liaison between meeting planners and partners/members
  • Verify bookings by obtaining confirmations
  • Confer with customer and lodging/meeting space representatives to assist with function details
  • Represent company at trade association meetings to promote destination
  • Control expenditures to budgetary requirements
  • Assist other departments within TRCVB to prepare sales tools and publications
  • Prepare sales reports showing results
  • Evaluate sales trends, competition, economic/business conditions, and performance; recommend changes in sales programs and customers to make territory more effective in meeting sales volume quotas
  • Identify and facilitate product development to increase business to Pierce County
  • Work collaboratively with TRCVB members to promote regionalism in Pierce County

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years sales experience with a solid understanding of hospitality industry
  • Individual will preferably have experience working with association and government market meeting planners
  • A bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, sales, communication or hospitality is preferred
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English; excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in computer skills
  • Ability to travel to attend workshops, trade shows and training [limited basis]
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and car

Sales Manager

Overview
Unique opportunity to promote Santa Barbara, The American Riviera® to the Southern California meetings market, Travel Industry Sales (TIS) and SMERF markets. This includes generating definite room night bookings, tracking clients, organizing the Bureau’s presence at trade shows and sales mission and escorting clients’ on-site tours and FAMs.

Responsibilities 

  • Produces group business leads for the hospitality industry. This is accomplished through both servicing calls that come to the CVB and through soliciting new business through telemarketing, sales missions, direct mail, FAMs, newsletters and trade shows.
  • Sells group sales cooperative marketing programs to hospitality partners.
    Develops new and updates current group itineraries that promote multiple night stays.
  • Manages all arrangements associated with site visits and FAM tours of Santa Barbara County.
  • Produces industry specific newsletters and track open rates.
  • Maintains client database, tracks leads and oversees conference servicing. 
  • Develops relationships and builds partnerships with area businesses, attractions and hotels relative to Santa Barbara’s hospitality industry.
  • Produces monthly, quarterly and annual reports documenting sales activities, lead generation, definite room night bookings and other sales related goals.
  • Stays up to date on industry best practices, standards and benchmarks by, but not limited to, reading publications and attending events.
  • Evaluates sales trends, competition and economic/business conditions; recommends modifications in sales program/strategies.
  • Serves on industry committees and boards when appropriate as well as maintains membership in local, state, regional, and national industry organizations.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS with an emphasis in marketing, business, or communications (or equivalent in directly related work experience) preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with a convention and visitors bureau, large hotel, tourist attraction or other related tourism business.
  • Advanced user knowledge of the following software Microsoft Office applications, and Internet/Email access and utilization; CRM System (Customer Relationship Management).
  • Strong presentation skills including ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders and constituents including clients, members, vendors and co-workers.
  • Familiarity with Santa Barbara County area and attractions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under stressful conditions and balance multiple commitments.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and act with a sense of urgency and self determination.
  • Ability to travel independently to domestic and international destinations via commercial airlines.

Accountable for leading and directing the sales and marketing department and assigned team members. Responsible for an assigned hotel group, which includes all market segments. Professional Background

  • Prior success in establishing and leading the sales and marketing team of a CVB and/or large scale resort/hotel, or major repositioning of an established CVB on a comparable scale and profile to Temecula Valley; including establishing market positioning (brand development) and sustained revenue flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to build backlog and accelerate sales pace in the corporate group and leisure travel segments.
  • Proven ability to establish dominant brand positioning within defined competitive sets and establish a sustained pattern of market share advantage.
  • Ability to formulate strong community relations ties and alliances, supported with integrated marketing efforts to drive room bookings and revenue.
  • Well established relationships and contact with meeting planners and national corporate customers.

  • Assists in developing, planning, coordinating and implementing sales programs that will showcase the area as a convenient and economical meeting and event location.

Database Management

  • Builds and maintains web site databases for Meeting Sales, Tour/Travel and Sports/Special Events categories, including maintaining up-to-date files and accounts for all potential and past clients.
  • Prepares RFP’s through CRM system.

Branding and Marketing (25%)

  • Establishment of a distinctive identity in the marketplace as a desirable destination, while positioning it to successfully compete for market share with other highly recognized destinations.
  • Executive responsibility for managing the brand of Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country.
  • Executive responsibility for the creative image, web presence and related promotional tools necessary for a dynamic and diverse destination.
  • Responsible for the on-going marketing and presence of all online marketing and sales channels.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan with targeted strategies and tactics to drive revenue and performance in all areas which will include a critical path, accountability, and ROI and implement the business plan templates as defined by the Bureau.
  • Along with the President & CEO, write the annual marketing plan and quarterly partner reports pertinent to sales and marketing. Outlines to include strategies and tactics to meet both revenue and expense budgets and the development of new business.
  • Responsibility for creating and managing promotions, events, advertising campaigns, public relations plans and FAM tours designed to generate business.

Planning and Management (15%)

  • Assess hotels defined competitive market(s) and defined competitive sets and their relevance to Temecula Valley based on current/future market conditions and market/industry changes and fluctuations.
  • Evaluate group sales deployment against markets, territories and customer segments in order to optimize penetration and ensure that deployment and measureable, strategic sales plans are in place.
  • Ensure that all data capture procedures and maintenance of all account databases are effectively monitored for capture, quality and targeted usage.
  • Develop all relevant financial performance budgets relating to Sales and Marketing department.
  • Responsible for analysis and monthly reporting that will detail sales and marketing efforts and financial performance, to include booked rooms, lost business, estimated economic impact, call volumes, site visits, web site statistics, social media, free press and in-kind opportunities.
  • Constantly explore new products and services, evaluating potential return on investment and enhancement to the Bureau.

Leadership (15%)

  • Lead and provide strategic direction, support and leadership for all aspects of Bureau sales and marketing efforts.
  • Coach and lead, on a daily basis, the Director of Sales, Director of Online Marketing & Technologies, Marketing/PR Manager and Sales Coordinator.
  • Ensure the implementation of routine department meetings within sales and marketing.
  • Provide direction to the sales team in order to enhance group booking pace and lead generation and continue to identify opportunities to maximize group sales contribution and performance.
  • Provide leadership, training and direction in order to achieve maximum financial profitability on a daily, monthly and annual basis.
  • Responsible for crisis public relations preparedness and management during emergency situations.
  • Represent Bureau at appropriate special events, trade shows, FAM tours, industry events, and professional meetings.

Communication and Relationships (10%)

  • Maintain interactive communication with Bureau board and stakeholders to ensure their participation and input in the Bureau’s plans, programs and their implementation.
  • Develop and foster relationships and provide strategic direction to key third-party vendors such as public relations and advertising agencies.
  • Develop and foster relationships with key political community figures and organizations.
  • Responsible for development of marketing partnerships.
  • Maintain an active role in important strategic, professional industry organizations as necessary.

Non-essential Job Functions (5%)

  • Works effectively with volunteers, Bureau board of directors, committees, city and county officials, hoteliers and hospitality industry staff.
  • Supports Bureau staff, including clerical or telephone support, as needed.
  • Performs any other appropriate duties as assigned by the President & CEO.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience
    • Four-year degree from an academic institution in related field.
    • Sales and Marketing certification and/or training program completion.
    • Minimum of three years of experience with a convention and visitors bureau, large hotel, tourist attraction or other related tourism business.

Overview
Redding, California, is located at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, approximately 160 miles from Sacramento and 225 miles from San Francisco. With a population of 91,000 people, it is the largest city in California north of Sacramento and is a regional service center for the region known as the Shasta Cascade. With more than 2,500 hotel rooms and more than 100 restaurants, Redding’s location on Interstate 5 makes it a popular overnight stay for travelers as well as a destination for many visitors looking to be close to the numerous natural attractions located in far northern California. The Redding Convention & Visitors Bureau is going through a transition, as it becomes part of the regional tourism marketing organization known as the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association. Although this position is specifically for the Redding Convention & Visitors Bureau, there will be crossover duties with the regional tourism marketing association. 

Position Profile
Under direction of the President/CEO, the Marketing Director works independently to develop and implement the visitor marketing strategy for the Redding Convention & Visitors Bureau; promote Redding as a year-round destination to group tour operators; and establish and maintain close communications with tourism promotion professionals, sales people, the media, and local tourism members and partners. The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of the Redding brand and growth initiatives and will have an understanding of effective and creative outreach at the local, state, national, and international tourism industry levels. This includes a good understanding of today’s social marketing strategies which will frequently be used to accomplish the overall outreach mission.

Responsibilities

  • Protect and enhance the Redding and Shasta Cascade brands through all marketing efforts
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships, alliances, and cooperative campaigns
  • Oversee and manage the CVB’s online strategy, including advertising, updates, social media efforts, and e-communications
  • Supervise the creation; and production of collateral, including visitors guides, brochures, and other marketing pieces
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for industry sales people and lodging, restaurant, and attraction partners, and work to develop and maintain positive relationships
  • Proactively generate new ideas and opportunities to market Redding
  • Oversee all marketing and agency relationships
  • Evaluate, track and report return on investment for all programs to ensure that plan implementation, budget, and results are aligned
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, correspondence, proposals and other administrative duties as requested
  • Actively solicit group tour business
  • Represent the organization at consumer and travel trade shows and trade organization conventions
  • Assist in the organization of regional co-op programs
  • Develop press releases on a regular basis, prepare and promote story ideas for travel writers, and organize familiarization tours for various trade members
  • Develop and promote new itineraries for group tour operators
  • Regional and national travel is required with some overnight stays

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of traditional media models as well as current online and social media approaches
  • Leadership presence, superior written and oral communications and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Competency of MS Office required; experience with the following programs a plus:
  • Photoshop, Dreamweaver or Homesite, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube channels,
  • Google Analytics and a competitive knowledge and operation of the Internet
  • Travel or meeting/convention experience is helpful
  • Very limited understand of HTML or CSS coding or both is a plus
  • Experience in program development and budget management
  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and self-motivation
  • Experience working with tour operators or meeting planners helpful
  • Marketing experience, preferably within the hospitality or travel industry, a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is essential
  • Competent decision-making, problem solving, time management, and organization skills a must
  • Must have knowledge of tourism industry trends, terminology, and technology
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with local lodging, restaurant, attraction staff and other office staff

Education
Qualifications include at minimum: BA degree in communications, public relations, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.

Compensation/Benefits
Salary range is $3,334 - $4,691 per month. Starting salary depends on qualifications.
The Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association is a private, not-for-profit membership organization that provides its employees with a benefits package that includes company paid medical plan assistance, a 401(k) pension plan with a four (4) percent company contribution after one (1) year, paid vacation and sick leave No relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities
The President of Marketing leads and directs the Costa Mesa Conference and Visitors Bureau, its programs and activities to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization. The President of Marketing reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors and supervisors Bureau staff and service providers.

Planning - Conducts a disciplined annual planning process to develop and implement:
Sales & Marketing Plan: An annual plan outlining the CVB’s programs and activities to maximize visitor revenues to Costa Mesa and achieve the annual goals set by the board of directors.

  • Strategic Plan: A long-term strategic plan to market Costa Mesa as a visitor destination, increase visitor revenues and build community support and participation in the CVB.
  • Marketing Programs: Programs with measurable performance to achieve the goals and objectives set forth in the sales and marketing plan.
  • Budget: Operates the CVB and its programs and activities within the financial structure and funding as prescribed in the annual budget.

Leadership - Leads and directs the CMCVB and builds community support for visitor industry marketing and the contributions it makes to the city:

  • CMCVB: Develops a competitive and proactive sales and marketing culture for the CMCVB, its staff and stakeholders.
  • Board of Directors: Leads the board in efforts to build visitor revenues and initiates programs and activities to achieve this objective.
  • CMCVB Staff: Directs the activities of the CVB staff to execute the programs effectively and achieve the annual revenue goals.
  • Stakeholders: Leads and coordinates the efforts hotel sales personnel and other stakeholders in CVB visitor sales activities.
