WACVB’s position announcement service is available both to WACVB member and nonmember bureaus seeking to fill CEO and senior-level staff vacancies. The announcements are posted to the Web site each Friday. The fee schedule for the service: $50 charge per job announcement for WACVB member bureaus and $100 for nonmember bureaus. Prepayment is not required from member bureaus; invoices will be sent. Payment may also be made via credit card; we accept American Express, MasterCard, and Visa.

President of Marketing
Costa Mesa Conference & Visitors Bureau, Costa Mesa, California

Responsibilities
The President of Marketing leads and directs the Costa Mesa Conference and Visitors Bureau, its programs and activities to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization. The President of Marketing reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors and supervisors Bureau staff and service providers.

Planning - Conducts a disciplined annual planning process to develop and implement:
Sales & Marketing Plan: An annual plan outlining the CVB’s programs and activities to maximize visitor revenues to Costa Mesa and achieve the annual goals set by the board of directors.

  • Strategic Plan: A long-term strategic plan to market Costa Mesa as a visitor destination, increase visitor revenues and build community support and participation in the CVB.
  • Marketing Programs: Programs with measurable performance to achieve the goals and objectives set forth in the sales and marketing plan.
  • Budget: Operates the CVB and its programs and activities within the financial structure and funding as prescribed in the annual budget.

Leadership - Leads and directs the CMCVB and builds community support for visitor industry marketing and the contributions it makes to the city:

  • CMCVB: Develops a competitive and proactive sales and marketing culture for the CMCVB, its staff and stakeholders.
  • Board of Directors: Leads the board in efforts to build visitor revenues and initiates programs and activities to achieve this objective.
  • CMCVB Staff: Directs the activities of the CVB staff to execute the programs effectively and achieve the annual revenue goals.
  • Stakeholders: Leads and coordinates the efforts hotel sales personnel and other stakeholders in CVB visitor sales activities.
  • City of Costa Mesa: Visibly advocates support for visitor industry and CVB.
  • Community: Builds awareness of visitor spending in local community and support for CMCVB and its programs.
  • Partnerships: Develops strategic partnerships with industry and destination stakeholders to increase reach and penetration in target markets.

Relationships - Maintains active industry relationships:
Customers: Builds relationships and sells Costa Mesa to customers in our targeted visitor industry segments.

  • City Council: Develop strong relationship with City Council to promote value and contribution of visitor industry and tourism to all Costa Mesa constituents.
  • Visitor Industry: Active in the visitor industry and knowledgeable about its structure, dynamics and distribution channels.
  • Service Providers: Develops and manages productive relationships with marketing, sales, publicity, promotion, internet and related service providers.
  • Resources: Maintains relationships with industry resources and consultants to provide advice and support as needed for CVB activities.

Marketing - Produces an effective destination marketing program for Costa Mesa:

  • Targeted and measurable internet based marketing programs.
  • Interactive social media campaign against targeted visitor segments.
  • Manage online marketing to achieve optimum revenue contribution.
  • Publicity, packages, promotions and database marketing in target markets.
  • Increased destination awareness in travel distribution network.
  • Build effective reciprocal marketing relationships with South Coast Plaza, Lab/Camp, Performing Arts and OC Fair
  • Network with other South Coast CVBs to maximize mutual objectives.
  • Destination marketing materials to support hotel group sales efforts.
  • Effective use of technology to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Ongoing program measurement to track effectiveness, contribution and ROI.

Sales - Plans and coordinates CVB sales activities in the target markets.
Seeks group sales opportunities for Costa Mesa.

  • Coordinates stakeholder participation in industry events and trade shows.
  • Supports hotel sales efforts with destination marketing materials.
  • Develops client relationships with key accounts in target segments.

Management - Manages CVB programs to achieve planned goals and objectives:

  • Ensures consistent, proactive CVB marketing programs and sales support.
  • Deploys CVB staff and resources to penetrate target markets.
  • Provides flexibility to meet changing needs and priorities.
  • Monitors programs and their costs to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Supervises CVB staff in their activities to attain planned objectives.
  • Measures staff performance against goals and objectives.
  • Provides relevant training and development opportunities for the CVB team and stakeholders.
  • Provides a professional office environment and tools to execute plans.
  • Operates CVB within defined budget and time parameters.

Communication - Maintains interactive communication with CVB board and stakeholders to insure their participation and input in CVB plans, programs and their implementation:

  • Regularly scheduled board meetings, progress updates and reports.
  • Measurement of contribution and ROI of CVB programs and activities.
  • Structured reporting on progress against CVB goals and objectives
  • Actionable market and sales information.
  • Represents CVB and its priorities to the press, city and local community.

Goals and Objectives

  • Achieves and exceeds annual performance goals as established by the CMCVB Board of Directors.
  • Operates CMCVB programs within budget and within specified time frames.

Qualifications

  • Education and training equivalent to college degree in marketing or business administration plus a minimum of five years of management experience.
  • Ten years of travel industry, hotel and/or destination marketing expertise.
    Proven track record of effective leadership.
  • Highly developed people skills.
  • Experience in the areas of automated sales technology and distribution
    Internet marketing, emerging media band social networking.
  • Vision and creativity and proactive leadership (bring ideas to the table).
  • Strong communication, organizational and financial management skills.

Senior Sales Manager
Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau, Oxnard, California

Overview
The Senior Sales Manager works independently to promote Oxnard as a year-round destination to groups, associations and corporations by designing and implementing the OCVB sales plan. Creates, implements and oversees all aspects of the sales effort for the Bureau including lead generation, lead conversion and sales strategies. Develops and carries out sales promotions/missions as stated in the OCVB marketing plan or by the President & CEO. The Senior Sales Manager reports to the Bureau President & CEO.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (full-time position)

  • Develops, implements and evaluates yearly sales plan for the OCVB
  • Actively solicits group business to the OCVB as described in sales plan
  • Achieves individual goal of 10 leads generated per month
  • Achieves conversion goal of 40% of leads generated to definite business
  • Attends consumer and travel trade shows
  • Attends trade organization conventions and/or trade shows
  • Develops and executes sales blitz’s, proposals, site inspections services and meetings/conferences
  • Solicits sales in designated market areas as described in the OCVB sales plan
  • Assists in the formulation and implementation RFP bids and funding proposals as necessary
  • Develops tour itineraries and assist in all tour & travel trade requests. Assists with group FAM trips for industry
  • Assists in organization of Regional co-op programs with marketing department
  • Attends trade member organization meetings and local committee participation
  • Participates in weekly face-to-face meeting with reports required to supervisor

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to work as a team member. Requires flexibility to manage the complex coordination of multiple department and Bureau projects. Position requires self-motivation and independent, strategic thinking.
  • Proven senior sales skills, reporting ability, the ability to form and understand a sales plan and implement the tasks associated with the plan without direct oversight.
  • Must have prior experience working with meeting planners, tour operators, associations, and individual group coordinators.
  • Fundraising and/or sponsorship skills helpful.
  • Strong written, verbal (public speaking) and organizational skills are a must.
  • Excellent computer skills are needed, including MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Simpleview database knowledge helpful.
  • A competitive knowledge and operation of the Internet.
  • Regional travel required with some overnight stays.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of hospitality/tourism industry sales and marketing experience required. CVB experience highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the areas of travel and tourism, communications or marketing.

Convention Sales Manager

Overview
The role of the Modesto Convention & Visitors Bureau is to strengthen the local economy by marketing the city of Modesto as the ideal destination for meetings, conventions, sporting events, motor coach tours, film production, and leisure travel, attracting significant numbers of new and repeat visitors, creating a positive economic impact of visitor’s dollars in our community.

Position Duties (include, but are not limited to)
This is a unique opportunity to fully use your cutting-edge sales and marketing skills. Develop, implement and provide supervision of sales and promotional activities for associations, fraternal organizations and religious groups that generate overnight stays in Modesto accommodations and create economic impact in Modesto. Analyze sales statistics to formulate monthly activity reports that include new leads generated, confirmed bookings, conversion and repeat sales. Identify and explore emerging markets. Develop and implement a sales plan. Generate and qualify leads using sales, prospecting, telemarketing, and computer database along with other sales methods. Promote Modesto as a year-round destination. Target and develop niche markets that increase overnight stays. Responsible for generating sales leads and converting leads to definite bookings to meet sales goals as defined in the marketing plan. Process and distribute sales leads to hospitality industry. Coordinate sales and marketing presentations to consumer and organizational decision makers about Modesto to encourage and enhance the selection of this area as a convention /meeting destination. Build relationships with the travel media to promote the destination. Maintain a presence at key tradeshows, conventions and industry meetings. Develop direct mailings and other sales methods to attract new business. Develop and maintain a mailing list for current and prospective clients, area news contacts, and state, national and international decision makers. Develop and assist in the design of sales and marketing materials.

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills and the ability to work as a TEAM player. Must have excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Proven track record of results, motivational to sales team, excellent communicator, strong leadership skills, and able to manage diverse clients. Able to interact effectively with clients, co-workers and the public. Independent strategic thinking, self motivation, and prioritization skills are crucial. Experienced hospitality sales professional who understands and enjoys the challenges and rewards of selling a destination. Experience in hotel or bureau sales, prospecting and generating leads. Strong database experience. Proven reporting ability and knowledge of the travel industry are required. Advanced knowledge of traditional sales models as well as current online and social media approaches. Position requires cross-promotional partnering with sales, marketing and service functions as well as other partners throughout the region. Understanding of the complex issues of destination marketing. Very strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Photoshop, etc.) Perform related duties as required. Seasoned and strategic hospitality sales professional with a strong background in hotel and preferably convention and visitor bureau group sales.

Bachelor’s degree in business/marketing/sales, hospitality and tourism, preferred or related field. Hotel experience preferred.

A minimum of 6+ years of experience in a management level public/media relations professional role or public relations account manager role with at least half that time in a supervisory role over other professionals. Advanced knowledge of traditional media models as well as current online and social media approaches. Strong skills in presentation and public speaking are a must. Leadership presence, superior communications skills and interpersonal skills are essential. Competency with MS Office software. Travel or meeting/convention experience is helpful.
